Mind as an ecosystem

Systems theory and the Palo Alto approach

The Palo Alto therapeutic approach is both organic and pragmatic. It offers us a clear vision of the interactions that you have with yourself, others, and the world. This method of problem-solving takes into account the complexity of your various relationships while ensuring that you leave each session with clarity about what you are going through and concrete actions to implement in your daily life.

Whether the problem is personal or professional, my goal remains the same: to identify the means to resolve it through communication, new behaviors, mastery of your mind, and befriending your emotions. If you are interested, I gladly integrate meditation techniques to the tools I propose. My goal is that you leave equipped with all the keys to face your life in an autonomous way at the end of the therapy.

The psyche is an adaptive system. In the understanding of the Palo Alto approach, our work as therapists is to weed out the obstacles that stand in the way of a healthy life balance in continous adaptation.

Human suffering does not originate, nor reside, inside of our psyche, isolated from its environment. Rather, our suffering emerges from the interactions we have with our environment, when these relationships have become blocked for certain reasons. Just like a weed, suffering intrudes into a healthy patch of plants, taking over, and disturbing that which is naturally healthy and resilient. Health is adaptation. It is maintained when nature does its work, in a continuous creative balance between the outside and the inside and in all our relations. As in permaculture, we understand how all the elements interact in a healthy way, and we observe carefully in order to identify when one element becomes too dominating and prevents the other elements from thriving. In that case we intervene, like a farmer on the land, to recreate harmony and allow the natural intelligence of our minds and emotions to evolve together ecologically.

  • Better understand what is currently happening in your life and reconnect to your mental and emotional resources

  • Get unstuck, improve your communication, befriend your emotions

  • A space for you to put into perspective what you’re currently going through

  • Heal and find your equilibrium by implementing concrete tools and experiences in your life

The Palo Alto approach is fundamentally non-normative: the only notion of health that interests us is the ecological balance that is unique to each individual, in each person's life context, as it evolves and is continually creative. The energy of life simply wants to flow naturally, through the various elements of which it is composed. The therapist is there to help root out that which prevents this natural flow, this adaptability, this flexibility.

Just like a weed, suffering intrudes into a healthy patch of plants, taking over, and disturbing, that which is naturally healthy and resilient.
